Default Replacing the shift lever

On more than one occasion the shift lever has been moved ever so slightly but enough to put the transmission into manual mode; much to my surprise. This is an '07 XK so I was wondering if it is possible to replace the shift lever with the rotary *** that is on the newer models. Anyone know?

The shift lever never puts it into manual mode, that is the paddles on the steering wheel.

you must be hitting the paddles sometimes, this switches to manual, it will return to D mode when the car feels you've stopped using the paddles and the engine adjusts to the driving style, the car will only stay in manual/paddles if you have the lever in the S position

What they ^^^^ said, but as far as swapping out the shifter for the knob, it'd be cheaper and easier to buy a 2010+ than to do all that. There is a TON of stuff that would need to be changed; software, firmware, hardware, transmission...... put aside three months and $15,000 if you want it done.
