Default Respray Silver XKR

Hi, I recently bought aSilver 07 XKR and am delighted with the car. within a week I removed the mid stage resonators and replaced with an X pipe and it really makes a difference, much more aggressive sound now. As the car is 9 years old there are several little dings and scratches on the bodywork and a couple of spots on the door sills with minor corrosion. I made a major decision to get the whole car resprayed! the car is being stripped down and prepped at the moment with a very good paint shop. I would love to change the colour to metallic grey but I am aware that this would be a lot more work and cost so I am going to stay with Silver but would like a nicer silver than it is now. the stock silver is quite flat and has a bluish tint in certain light, I want a silver shade that will really shine and show off the car. Painter said if i see a silver I like on a car take note of the reg and he can get a code for it but not seeing anything cool yet.
Any suggestions??

Ever thought of vinyl wrapping your vehicle , im just unsure how the market would take it if a jaguar was sold with a respray and not the original paint that is obviously when it comes the time to sell it

With the resonator removal the xkr has two did you remove both resonators or simply just remove the front resonator and replace with the x pipe

Thought about wrapping but dents and corrosion would still be evident, getting these issues sorted permanently and repainted seemed a better, although more expensive option. as for resale value, i think a pristine professional job should be better than a scruffy original, this is one of the reasons the paint shop said to keep it silver. it wouldn't put me off buying a car as long as it was just cosmetic and not because of crash damage. as for the exhaust, local shop removed the whole middle section with both resonators and replaced with crossover (x pipe). I still have mid section if i want to go back to original but i don't see that happening any time soon, sounds so good!

My '07 Liquid Silver was completely repainted in 2013. I too thought about a shift in color, but knew the issues like door jams, engine bay, and other spots not easily done would haunt me. I backed down to just thinking about a light alteration, like staying with LS, but alter flake color to a light degree. Example' adding mica or prysim type flakes mixed with OEM silver to give a little different reflective values... Along those thoughts, maybe just a touch of blue flake, or red, but still keeping the Liquid Silver as the solid base color.

In the end, I stuck with factory Liquid Silver (it was a Jag authorized shop), and don't regret the choice, as the car looks showroom new today and LS is still a beautiful color. I did clearbra the front, lower rocker panels and rear trunk ledge after the respray. Clearbra should not be debated on a clean pain job. 4 years later (and maybe 40,000 miles) I still have one of the cleanest 07s youll see, even with 97K mile on her.

I also got rid of the '07 grill, and had the Jaguar black wire grill installed.... Wow... Wish I could get it for my 2010 XKR...

Hi Vince, looks like you had the same dilemma as myself. A colour change is really out of the question for the reasons you mentioned but it is a lot of money just to get rid of some minor imperfections so I am trying to get something a little different. I do like the black grillls, look much better than the original grey, i am going to get the grills on mine painted black as well. Thanks, Ray

Wow. Didn't realize they would disassemble so much for a respray. Hope they don't scratch anything when putting it back together.

Top respray jobs do involve stripping panels of the car, supprised they have not removed the bonnet and boot lid and painted it on trestle's. Or may be they did

The Jag looks great. Get a car cover to protect your new paint work that I am sure, cost a lot to complete. The car will look like new.

You made a wise decision to stay with the original color.

The Porsche silver is pretty striking. I forget the formal name for it.

You mean the black wire grill? Mina do one, and I used it on my '11 XKR. It is good stuff, but if you get it beware that you can see the silver paint inside the nose cone through the grill (because it isnt as deep as the plastic grill). I wrapped the inside of the cone (behind the grill) with black wrap, and that fixed that.

The Mina product has no appeal to me, being a simple cover over the OEM grill.
A true wire grill like my '07 has would be awesome. Why did Jag stop making it as a accessory in 2010?

Ahhh, you dont put it over the top anymore, you replace the old one (otherwise it shows through). It was a nice grill (upper and lower), but a production to install it. Mina say you can do it without taking the cone off, but if that is possible I never saw how.

I got mine with the red growler instead of black, they do a good job.

A picture of the car with the wire grill is on page 4 of the picture thread, though that was before I wrapped inside the cone.
