Secondary AIR pump Vacuum code (P2431)
Has ANYONE here had this code, and if so, what was your repair experience? I'm going to do some detective work this weekend with some smoke, but would like some stories about others to give me a place to start looking for the leak. I hope it's not the actual AIR pump. That dude is over $400.
Bump for hopefully somebody who has dealt with this before. I would love to grab a ohm meter and start probing but I have no idea what to do. I don't need to drop $1000 on a repair that is not affecting the car at all as far as I can tell. I can still get 28-30MPG out of this thing if I try hard enough, and it will still snap your neck when you stomp on the right vertical pedal, so the engine seems to be running fine. And all I have ever experienced is that vacuum issues kill engine performance.
Please someone help if you can.

I had the same code and it was determined that the Secondary Air Pump was defective and had to be replaced along with a valve. The pump costs in excess of $550 dollars and involves more than 3 hours of labor time to replace as the front bumper must be removed. In addition to the P code the Pump was making a very loud screeching noise upon the first start-up in the morning. Total repair cost by dealer $1,300.

Found this thread on a search, as I was told my vacuum pump needed to be replaced.
True confession: I wasn't really aware what a vacuum pump did.
My dealer's service dept are good folks and knowledgeable, and the car is 11 years old and just shy of the 100,000 mile mark, so I believe them. Yet like you, the car seems to be running fine.
This will be covered under my warranty so it's a free repair/replace for me. When I get the car back I'll ask, and post a photo of that page to let you know repair description and what they bill as parts/labor.
