Default SHow to get 2010 & up in neutral with no engine start

I'm out of town staying with friends. I took one for a ride in my 2011 XK Coupe, and he asked about reliability. I bragged about how none of my Jags had ever let me down. We pull up at his place and steam starts billowing out from under the hood, and coolant pouring out from under it. It turned to be the infamous water pump failure. I thought I had a some time yet before I needed to get it changed, but at 32,500 miles it failed. I removed the old pump but then I wanted to push it into the garage until l could return in a day or two with the new pump and install it.

But how do get the trans in neutral when the engine cannot be run, and the shifter will not raise out of the consul?
Well, see below.
How To Tow A Jaguar Equipped With An Electronic Shift Lever

The XK is a little different, lift the armrest, lift out the cup holders, you should see a strip of black plastic an inch wide and six inches long. You'll need a 25 torx
bit to remove the screw securing the plate, but under it is the same mechanism, use a small coin to turn the slot then pull up on the handle. There's a cable that connects to the trans that pulls it into neutral.
So good so far, I'll let you know if, when I try to start it after replacing the water pump, it all goes back to where it should.
Regards,

How untimely. Good luck with the repair!

Thank you very much, that is good to know. I just went out to take a look at this on mine, very easy to find after you told me what is what.

Since this is a procedure that you would need to have should your car die and require a tow I wonder why they would have a Torx holding that plate? I guess the previous owner of my car must have had the car towed at one point as the 25 Torx is not there allowing me to lift the plate without a tool. Honestly, I would have removed the Torx anyway to make this a field usable feature.

I suppose that some could take out the cupholders and use that as a cubby compartment?
