Default Replacement Expansion Tank Doesn't Look Right

Hey all, my car has a leak in the expansion tank to the point that the smoke from the evaporating coolant leak reaches inside the cabin. I just got in the mail a genuine replacement expansion tank but the sensor on the bottom looks like it was glued on or something? I have a return order set up but I just thought I'd see what some of you guys think about this, pictures attached.

That almost looks like dried-up electrical contact cleaner spray to me. Does that stuff wipe away with a damp cloth and leave a clean surface behind? Are you sure you received a brand-new tank? Did you order from a seller that you have used in the past and trust?

I got the part from "partsgeek.com" I ordered a headlight assembly from them before and they seem like they are a good source for genuine parts, I don't know if I would say I trust them. As far as the expansion tank, aside from the sensor it looks brand new and never to have been filled up before. And a damp rag isn't wiping anything away, it looks like they took a heat gun to mount the sensor on and completely melted the whole surrounding area away with it.

Don't risk installing this tank. Send it back and get a new one....

Partsgeek has been good to me on quality of parts. But that does not look correct, send it back and get another. MAYBE pay up a little more to get one from a better source.

What's the old saying "Run don't walk". Call them and state your displeasure. That tank is just a headache in the making.

Agree with everyone, even in the picture on their website that isn't how it's shown. I have a refund/return set up because why risk it? Just wish they weren't making me pay for the return shipping...still worth it.

Don't let them get away with charging you for return shipping. They sent you a defective part and it is THEIR responsibility to make it right, including covering all shipping charges. I've ordered from partsgeek.com before but if they tried to pull that on me, I wouldn't be ordering from them again....

Too bad you didn't look in the classifieds area of this forum!!! You could have the gently used one from the Jag I parted out for half the price. If you need anything else or want the one I have let me know. I'm prompt in returning email requests, ship quickly for actual costs and I guarantee you its genuine Jaguar.

Good luck with your Jag, Neil

Thanks for the reply! Actually there is something, if you have one, I've been trying to find a rear-view mirror because mine is completely clouded over from before the dimmer liquid was drained and is virtually impossible to see out of. Not sure if the different years are interchangeable but mine is a 2000. Thanks in advance!

Sorry Kay, apparently that's a high fail item. I sold the one I had a few months ago.

Good luck in your search,

Neil

Somewhere on this site I found a link to a company that rebuilds the original mirrors. I did a quick search but haven't found it yet.

IIRC is was around 100.00 for a rebuild.

I am looking for parts for my 2005 XK8 that I cannot find julesjag1. These are plastic parts. One is a plastic piece that runs from the drivers side to the passengers side. Dont know the part name yet. The piece runs vertical and in front of the connections for the window washer. As a matter of fact the piece busted and broke a elbow and a little 3 way valve / check valve behind it.

The other piece I am looking for no one makes any more. Its the plastic piece that gets scraped coming out of a driveway. I think it hooked to the bumper?
