You should call ETG in Beverly Hills. Speak to Jags Gill. I had them tune my 12 XK result with the tune and a Mina custom exhaust was 440HP on a Dyno here in LA. If you want more info pm me and I will provide you with it. ETG is a member and will offer a discount to Forum member. You can find them here: ECU Tuning Group | We are North America's leading tuner.

Was it a custom dyno tune?

It's a tune specifically for a 4.2L X150 XKR.

Originally the tune was developed by Jag for the XKR GT3 prototype (like I mentioned before, they had a special transmission tune for that car as well) but the project got canned and it went in another direction with Motec ECU, transaxle, etc... but the files remained in the archive, which someone found and passed on to us...

My ex-JLR contact took that tune and adjusted it further, testing on his own 2008 XKR to tweak a bit more out of it. The development was done using a KessV2 and editing the file in WinOLS. Once he was happy with it the KessV2 file was converted into the format that could be flashed into the car with IDS/SDD. That's the tune file I have now.

But since I don't have an X150 XKR here to load it into, I haven't got any dyno numbers to show. Hopefully in the next few weeks another forum member will be loading this tune into his XKR and he'll have some dyno runs before/after as well.

I'm very interested. I'm in the middle of a prolonged live dyno tune via Kess and would also be very interested to try the TCM map.

You need an IDS or SDD in order to flash it, I don't know anyone in Florida with that equipment...

I know a few people here with SDD. I used to have IDS when I had the SuperV8 and may buy it again.

I have had a similar experience as Alexjag in that after the tune and pulley I had done, while first and second gear seem to pull harder, mid to upper range (3rd-6th gears) seem to be lagging. I'm in San Diego several times per year, so I'd be interested as well.

As long as the SDD is a proper setup with a genuine interface (not a $50 POS from eBay) then it would be possible. Or I can help set you up with your own system.

I know someone who used to work for Jaguar and he has SDD also know a Jaguar tech who may be interested in trying this out. Or I may just re-buy, any suggestions? I see toughbook packages pop up from time to time as well as $600 JLR Drewtech Mongooses.

Thanks
We've got a tune for the 5.0L which is a tweaked version of the XKR-S tune, but as far as I know you need the XKR-S type exhaust with the x-pipe to really make it work. The 5.0L XKR's we flashed it into had the XKR-S x-pipe, and when we put it in an XFR with the standard exhaust it didn't make the same power as the XKR's with the XKR-S exhaust...

Just on the topic of the x-pipe, I recently found out that the 2008 XKR-S (the 4.2L version) also had an x-pipe fitted from the factory.

So Im a little ticked off! Slower 1/4mi with the tune-xkr-s-2008-exhaust-1.jpeg

It's not in the parts catalog, since they only built 200 of those cars and they were hand-finished specials... (that pic is of an exhaust which was removed from a genuine 2008 XKR-S, the owner went for a complete aftermarket system... god only knows why...)

What I've learnt in the last couple of years is that the top end power in these cars is improved with an x-pipe, it's why the V8 F-Types all have an x-pipe in them from the factory, and why the XKR-S also got one.

One guy I know with a 5.0L XKR, has gone step-by-step with the upgrades, and it made noticeable improvements...

Stock XKR
Adding XKR-S exhaust
Flashing stock XKR-S tune
Flashing tweaked XKR-S tune

Each time he got some gains, and now it bangs and pops like an F-Type hahaha

Since the X150 doesn't have ISO or SCP networks you can get away with the more basic interfaces like the DA-Dongle, which are cheaper to buy. If you got a DA-Dongle I could sort you out with the laptop/software side of things. Or I have a couple of VCM's still available which cover all Jag models from 1995 to 2016, but they aren't exactly cheap...

What equipment would I need to invest into to be able to flash my own car?

I installed an X-pipe and removed the mid resonator about 2 or 3 months ago, and I did notice some improvement. However, I still think power is lacking in mid and upper ranges 4-6th gear).
