Sooo.... I got carjacked....
I had an XJ40 stolen from outside my home many years ago. It was a moment of disbelief watching it being driven away. Car jacking must take this experience to an entirely new and frightening level.

They probably seen my video on Instagram of how my XKR gapped a corvette and it inspired somebody who seen it to steal an XKR or die trying😕I bet the XKR gone make it on a fast&furious movie 1 day as the main car with a cool back story that every criminal would want(no disrespect to you)and it create more fans than people are of the orange supra. But anyway, the only advice I can give you is call your insurance and tell them it had low mileage if they don't have it noted nowhere so it can be worth a lot of money instead of the depreciation value they try to give you for it.

Holy crap, that sucks, but you’re alive to tell about it, thank your lucky stars.
There’s no effect deterrents to stop this sh*t, at least in the old days they hung horse thieves.

They don't even bother prosecuting what is a violent crime in Chicago.

Where do you think Chiraq got the idea.....California. Sorry to hear it OP. We saw the writing on the wall a long time ago and left LA for greener pastures and lower taxes. But yea, Stolen XK parts arent in high demand so it was probably stolen to use in further crimes. It will turn up in a condition you dont want it back. Good new its a fairly unique car so it will turn up. Bad news, is if, IF, they catch the perps, they wont spend a single night in jail thanks to local DA Gascon.
Maybe a good practice for those of you who live in high crime areas would be to carry the fob in your pocket.....and get a CCW.
Again, sorry for what happened. I hope you make proactive steps to lessen your chances of a repeat and put the experience behind you.
That's my question, too. I suspect that the OP either (1) was carjacked in person and the perp took the Smartkey, or (2) left the Smartkey in the car and the perp simply got in and drove away. It's difficult, if not impossible, to hotwire an X150 or clone a Smartkey.
In 1965, my 1960 Corvette was stolen from a parking lot. The police recovered the car because it was not driveable and abandoned. The thief apparently wanted to test his launch skills and put the car in first gear (4-speed), revved the engine and popped the clutch. That caused the clutch to explode and send shrapnel through the floor of the transmission tunnel and into the driver's door - after apparently passing through the driver's legs, as there was blood on the carpet. That force was so great that it snapped the universal joint at the differential (4.11 Positraction) thereby leaving the driveshaft hanging on the ground. There was no other damage to the car.
The insurance company for that parking lot provided me with a loaner car and paid to have my Corvette completed repaired. Sure, I was inconvenienced, but felt good knowing that the thief got more than he expected.

Keeping the key in your pocket is actually.a great idea...
And good luck getting a CCW in L/A...

Sheriff VanillaWafer is in a PeePee measuring contest with the LA city council after they cut his funding over political reasons last year. His response was to start issuing CCW permits as a FU. With that said, its still a trickle, but becoming more frequent.
Hey so sorry to hear about your troubles. LA has been really crazy the last month or so… More so than usual. I also have a black XKR convertible and live in Los Angeles. Are you willing to share where and when this happened? I want to do my best to hang onto mine.
And yes, criminals did make the decision for you. I hope that you are OK and your insurance company does right by you.
All Best,
Buddy

My buddy just told me LoJack is shutting down. It would be a nice feature with these expensive cars if there was a 'panic' button you could hit if you're car jacked and a mile down the road your car shuts off.
Apple AirTag or a Tile. Ive seen a few comparisons and it looks like AirTags win because they ping off Apple products which are everywhere. $30ish bucks and easy to stash....I think the battery last a year or so. Im getting a few for other reasons but in my head its a lot simpler and easy to hide than a GPS locator.
Well with a District Attorney in Los Angeles who doesn't believe in locking up criminals nor bail, even if they find the culprits, they won't spend a minute in jail. Moral of the story might be, "Don't drive anything of value, anymore."
Ain't that the truth, silvertonesx24. I have to say, if I get jacked, they are taking my car and I won't think twice about it. Maybe - since our politicians and lovely AG don't think violent crime is equally-punishable - our insurance companies can force some semblance of rational/logical thought into the system (i.e. after paying out a few 100K claims, they will get tired of the lawlessness in Chicago and either pull out or force the prosecutors to do their jobs.) Rant over.
To the OP - so sorry to hear about the jacking. I am afraid that I won't get out of the car fast enough, getting caught up in my seat belt or something.
