Default Spinning the tires

It was a cold day today and I didn't have much to do around the house so I did a little youtube watching on car reviews. I came across the new Camero Z28 at 505HP and 480 Lb Ft of torque coming from their SC 7 liter engine. There was a comment that mad me wonder if anyone of the late model XKR or XKRS has had. It seems they had special Pirelli tires fitted on their 20" rims. The problem they were having was the tires would spin on the rims under heavy acceleration. Has this been an issue with any of the high torque XK's. We have about the same tire/wheel combo and the same torque. Just wondering.

I think it's a nonsense marketing gimmick. Any car can have maximum torque under heavy braking! Of course the stickier rubber you have, the greater the likelihood is of having the tire rotating on the wheel!

Have to agree.....the torque requirement to overcome the huge amount of friction between the tyre bead and rim would be huge......that said there are reports of this exact issue being a problem on the Nissan GTR found during development. So being an engineer i'm going to test this out.....just drawn a simple white line on the inner face of the wheel between tyre and alloy.......now to see if it moves after a few miles of driving!!!

My understanding was it happened under 1/4 mile test runs . It was hard acceleration when dropping the clutch off the line. Could or could not be true.

This is/was a problem on many high HP muscle cars and dragsters of the '60s especially if the air pressure was lowered in an effort to gain traction.
