Default Steering column cover question

Hey everybody,

The covers of my steering column are not held together tightly.
When my steering wheel is raised to the high tilted position, I can use my two hands and snap the top and lower steering column covers together, but when I lower the tilt downwards, the covers separate again. I noticed the lower cover has two screws and they seem to be on tight. What exactly is holding these two pieces together?

It would appear just built in snaps, as what you are describing is snaps that no longer work properly. When you snap it together, does it feel tight, as in difficult to unsnap? if yes than you could have something else prying it open in the down position.

If a new cover is insanely pricey, get a band made out of caramel leather (thats your color not tan) with some velcro.

Two days ago I noticed the same separation on mine. Have not had the chance to try and press it in place yet, but I also think it may have something to do with potential broken plastic 'snaps'

If the snaps are broken - which piece gets replaced: the top or bottom? Or both?

Good question, have not taken a hard look at it. Will do over the weekend, the separation is aprx 1/8" on the left side only.

Took a close look at mine and its pulled apart slightly on the left side of the steering wheel column cover. As its only about a 1/8" to 3/16" gap, I am leery to pry it in oder to determine if I can feel any tension from snaps on the inside. All I can say is that even with exerting a lot of downward pressure while trying to join the two pieces, I do not feel anything attempting to grab on the inside. Perhaps there were some small plastic tabs and they have since broken.

Annoyingly, the manual refers to the upper & lower "shroud" and "cowl", but they're the same thing. When removing the lower cowl, they simply say to remove the two screws; there's no mention of any clips or latches. The upper cowl is held on by three screws that are only accessible once the lower one is removed.

That might be my little weekend project…… take the screws out, and try to 'reset' the top and bottom pieces.
