My windows do not go down the 1/2 inch when I open the door. Is this a common problem, is there a fix I can do myself?

Try to reset the windows as follows:

Turn on the ignition. Start with the windows up and doors closed. Lower both windows and keep holding the buttons for 5 seconds after the windows are down. Then raise the windows and keep holding the buttons for 5 seconds after the windows are up.

If the problem resolves, then recurs again, your battery is probably low and needs a charge or replacement.
