Default Steering issue

My 2006 XK hasn't been used for a month so today I decided to fire it up, didn't want to start but did eventually, however the steering is now very heavy.
Anyone got any ideas?
Tony

Tony,

The difficult starting could be no more than a partially discharged battery if you haven't had it hooked up to a battery tender whilst it's been unused.

With the heavy steering, first check fluid level in the reservoir and, if the vehicle can be moved, any signs of leaks on the ground.

It might just be sulking - they love to be driven!

I've experienced the same thing a few rare times. It seems to clear itself after a restart or two..... (Just keep your hands off the wheel when starting)

I believe the power assist is computer controlled, allowing more assist in low parking lot speeds, and less assist at highway speeds for more feedback. That's an educated guess on our XK at the moment, but a common practice on many cars.
I figure it just got itself mixed up, and a restart seemed to correct the error for me...
