Default Steering wheel switches X150 XKR

Hi everyone,

I am trying to replace my LH audio steering wheel switch cluster. The wheels have deteriorated and I have located a very good condition used one.

Fortunately, I have access to the screw that holds the cluster in place (after I remove the shifter paddle) but it does not lift out as one edge is slid behind the airbag.

So here is the question...

Is it possible to free up that side of the airbag just enough to slide the cluster out? I really don't want to remove the entire wheel and airbag completely to do this and the workshop manual is not very detailed.
I do not have the special tool either - it just looks like something that I could fabricate..

Phil

You have to remove the airbag in order to remove the switch packs which are screwed in from inside. You might be able to fabricate the airbag tool, but a new one only costs about $50. The tool is designed to depress plastic wedge style clips.
