Thump, jerk, noise while taking off, my differential going out?
Hey guys this just happens over the last few days , became much worse today. 08 xkr 86k miles
When accelerating hard or during hard upshift can feel like there is a thump or several thumps , and as if acceleration is restricted slightly while it's happening.
Looked over the suspension all seems ok,
Anyone have a clue?
It does it either in first gear while taking off and will do it when it upshifts hard into second gear. Hope it's not a tranny going out. Maybe differential is suspect?

May be an engine mount. Open the bonnet and watch the engine while someone has it in gear WITH the brakes on and tap the throttle. Watch for any engine movement. Try it in both Drive and Reverse.
Can't believe the price $240/ piece and $300 labor there is us got to be something aftermarket cheaper

These are a bit more sophisticated than that. I have seen them for under $200 and you can probably find labor a bit less as well.

This is for a pair...and in your own state!
Yep that's what you get for buying a prestige marque

I know mine's not updated...but I'd ensure it was before asking for help...just saying!
The engine stock engine mount has two purposes.
Hold the engine in place.
Vibration dampening.
It is the latter cause whereby the price arises from engineering effort involved carefully shaping every aspect of the part and how it deals with a multitude of frequencies.
If you get an aftermarket part, did they duplicate that properly?
For $300 labor is it worth looking for a less expensive engine mount in a car that comfort is a significant factor?
Then again, seems several XKR's are replacing the factory ones lately, I'd be curious why the stock unit goes kaput.
Could be to maximize noise reduction a shorter life compound is used that yields a better result when new.
Aftermarket support is few and far between, not a lot of produced cars to make an aftermarket where parts are affordable.
They've quoted only two hours labour to replace engine mounts so £120/$145
They've also quoted me the same labour to fit the water pump and £200 for the OEM parts
I think particularly stateside you have to look at what local support their actually is for the marque you choose, especially if it's a non-domestic 'exotic' product. Fortunately have been in jag ownership for 14yrs so my support network is pretty well established...plus I have a a local mobile motor mechanic that charges me £20 to change brake pads and rotors per pair (purchased by me) he even charged me just £50 to remove the alternator from my Audi, get it refurbed and he reinstalled, all within 3 days.
Naturally depends where you are, where I live I've 3 Jag indy's within 10 miles

Resurrected thread!
Yep, I just found my left (of course) engine mount has broken and this was the only thread I could find. It still has some pertinent although slightly dated information, but it is still relevant.
SO, instead of starting another thread (or continuing an engine mount deal in my symptom thread) I'll just tag this one until I get my mount repaired.
Prices are still about the same and I haven't spoken to my local guys yet, but labor costs shouldn't have changed much in less than a year.
No, I'm not going to replace both mounts. Since the other side is always in compression and I am fairly rough on the left one, I don't see a problem with keeping the right one as is. In the olden days people would put a chain from a left side head bolt to the frame to keep stuff from tearing loose. I made an engine plate for my P/S Mustang, but that causes a lot of vibration. Doesn't matter in that application though.
Since pretty much the whole state of Utah is closed today as it is "Pioneer Day" (anniversary of statehood), I'll do more tomorrow.

Chuck it in the garbage, how long do you think before it follows it's twin brother. You know that, that's why you replaced both.
