I'm looking for new tires on my 2007 XK to replace 2 Dunlop SP Sport and 2 Kuhmo (not sure of the model). I have the 19 inch wheels - 245/40/R19 (front) and 275/35/R19 (rear). Do you have any recommendations for comparable replacement tire brands and models, especially those that might be a "good buy"? Thanks.

Do you want all season or summer only tires? Do you drive when the temperature is in the 40F and below?

 

Thank you both for the responses. I had searched "tires" and couldn't find the helpful "what do you roll on" thread. I do drive in <40 degree F weather so I'm looking for all season. Based on research so far, I'm leaning toward Continental Extreme Contact DWS.

 

We had those on the last XJ we owned and they were outstanding tires! In all weather...

We currently have Pirelli P Zero's on the 2011 XJL and will be replacing them with the Conti Extreme Contact DWS when we get some use out of the Pirelli's.

 

Tires can be subjective, and can center a lot around your driving habits. I'm also not a big fan of "All Season" (ie, does nothing well) tires... but i have ridden on the Conti's and was absolutly amazed how they handled torential downpours and standing water.
Being a Bridgestone guy, i'd consider the RE970, as they took the RE960 series compound, and beefed up the block design.... The RE960's would easily outperform the Conti's in daily (dry) drives , but the smaller tread blocks rolled over too much and wore into a sawtooth pattern too quickly for my taste. Looks like Bridgestone heard the complaints, and addressed it in the RE970's.

I'm currently on Michelin PS A/S Plus (came on the car), and cant wait to get them off....

I have Conti DWs (not DWS) on my FL car. No 40 degree driving for me. I couldn't be more pleased. My guess is that the Conti DWS is just the ticket for you.

I purchased a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS from Tire Rack and had them shipped to the local tire store for installation. Looks like they'll arrive today. I recommended Tire Rack. Thanks for your feedback.

I replaced my Michelins with the Ventus V12 and so far, so good. But with under 5K miles on them, it's too soon to tell. Smooth ride, quick turn-in, quiet.

 

All this talk of tires, and my dislike of my Michelin A/S sent me to my Firestone dealer to order a set of Bridgestone S-04's yesterday!

I wanted to comment on the TireRack recommendation, because although I have used them in the past, I learned long ago that my local Firestone Dealer will price match* without complaint. I highly recommend you consider this with your next tire purchase, as buying locally is a win for you, your dealer, and your community that the dealer supports. Sending you money to Snakes Navel AZ or some other part of the States is hurting the very town you live in.

*Be fair.... Price matching means TireRacks price Plus shipping costs you would have had to pay... In my case the S-04 were on sale, so that cost+shipping+mount and balance is the price I asked Firestone to meet.
Their answer? "Not a problem, well have them here for you this week..." A total win win win in my book...

NTB has always beat TireRack for me and couple of times by a major margain. This week I bought four Michelin Lattitudes for my Range Rover. TireRack was $308 a tire and NTB was $340 installed. Add shipping, mounting, and not puncture warranty, NTB is still cheaper. On my VDP, NTB be TireRack by a like $150 on the price alone for 4 P Zero Nero AS.

For Bridgestone, that is Firestone's territory and would've went to them if that was the brand I wanted. S-04's are going to rock! I need all season's or they would already be on the car (S-04's).

 

If you go to tirerack.com your can find all the spec you want and the prices are what you can expect too pay.

Bought set of Conti DWS Extremes yesterday. Driven about 150 miles and they are definitely quiet and comfortable. Replaced my Hankook Ventus which were ok but these have a superior tread wear rating of 540.
