Stuart S, thanks for the reply...your finisher looks fantastic!! That's exactly what I want but uncertain if I should order the chrome or aluminum finisher. Are you confident that yours is the aluminum variant (polished) rather than the chrome variant???
The later model years with the body colored plinths do not have the embossed ‘JAGUAR’.
So a previous owner of your car had the chromed plastic plinth painted to match the body color, or had the whole car repainted and did the plinth too. Was your car maybe rear ended at some point in its life?
Maybe you still have the chrome under the paint.
kj07xk...where the surface has degraded the black plastic is exposed...it isn't revealing any chrome. It is clearly plastic not aluminum. The gray surface of the trunk trim matches the gray fender side vents which are also plastic. None appear to have been repainted but they have a same gray surface. Did Jaguar describe the gray plastic trim as "aluminum" or are there actually aluminum trim on some cars??

Yes, but to be certain you should phone your local Jaguar dealer and speak with the Parts Department about the difference between the two part numbers. Decide which one you want and get their lowest price. Then contact (1) Forum sponsor SNG Barratt for their delivered price, and (2) other Jaguar OEM parts vendors online for their prices.
If you're unable to do the work yourself, you may want to bite the bullet and pay your local dealer to do it all and have a warranty.

Stuart would have actual polished aluminum on his Portfolio model. Your grey painted embossed plastic would be the first I’ve heard of if it came from the factory that way. I’ve only seen chrome plated plastic ones on the 4.2L cars.

There are two different side vents. From a distance they look the same, but they're not. See the link iat the bottom of my my Post #19, above.
There are separate vents for the Left and Right sides. Note the prices - $2,000 or $300! This is one of the reasons for the higher price of the 2008 and 2009 XKR Portfolio models. The cheap one is chrome plated plastic, and the other is polished cast and milled aluminum.
My 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible vent. Enlarge the photos to see the details.
So my 2007 XKR has, to me, an odd trunk trim. It looks somewhat mottled and I originally thought it was just chromed plastic that was sun damaged or something.
However, the insets in the doors are the same, not a smooth, uniform brushed finish. Is this how those parts are supposed to look with the wood interior? Or are these parts a result of heat damage, maybe? I recently bought this one from a P.O.S. Dealer in Houston in Dec 2021. It only had 2 owners. Ideas please? Thanks.
Trunk trim “Jaguar” discoloration or? Matches trunk trim. Center console isn’t mottled.
I suspect that your center console shifter surround was resprayed by the seller as part of their reconditioning process, probably with a rattle can. It looks too good to be 15 years old, and probably looked worse than your door trim and trunk finisher.
Like most auto manufacturers, Jaguar made cosmetic improvements every model year. For the 4.2L models, the 2009 XKR Portfolio had the best interior IMHO.
Mine has the Rich Oak genuine wood veneer, which is on the dash, console, and door switch panels and was exclusive to the Portfolio. The shifter surround appears to be polished aluminum (magnet doesn't stick). Enlarge the photo to see the details. I added a few custom touches - R footrest, R logo above glove box button, Leaper logo on shift knob, paddle shifter extensions, Leaper logo puddle lights, backup cam in ash tray, and more.

It looks identical to the one in my '07 XKR and that was the original factory one.
They were cheap to replace though and I actually bought a new chrome one (C2P14202) for £29.99 on EBAY later on in my ownership.
The first model year had the sad grey plastic arm rest plate for the window switches. The following years had interchangeable parts that matched the dash/console trim, e.g. simulated wood.
