Default Trunk trim with "JAGUAR" imprinted

I walked by another XKR the other day and was staring at it's *** for a bit. Something was different. I finally realized the trim surrounding the trunk button, the piece that says "JAGUAR," was chrome! Mine is painted the same as the car- Platinum.

I'm havin' a little chrome envy.

I think it looks better matching color. The earlier ones don't have the logo on that part.

All XKRs were colour coded all XK8s were chrome

And yes they can be fitted to earlier XKs with the button working to release the trunk if wished to

All XKR's are not color coded. My 2001 XKR has Chrome, and I believe they switched to the body colored ones in 2003.

Out of the factory I was lead to believe all XKRs were coded, it was only when they got to the dealers a lot of would be R owners prefered the look of the chrome, mainly because it went well with the lights and so they were often changed. I have many XKR post 2001 owners with chrome finishers, but I have none XK8 with coded.

Has any one done a 'how to' on the finisher? I have a load of pics I could post up

I think they came out mid way between 2000 and 2001 with the chrome trunk finisher. I'm not sure if they were on XKR's only or not. I will look it up in tonight when I get home. then I believe they went color coded in 2003. I know my 2001 Silverstone it is chrome and that was standard in all of the press releases and brochures for the car. I don't know about the British market. I believe this info's for the North American market.

I looked the information up in Nigel Thorley's book Jaguar XK8. The chromed plated boot plinth as he refers to it was on all XK's and XKR's model year 2001 and 2002. 2003 they went to color coded. Also the 2001 was the first year with the electrically actuating unlocking button.

Tony,

In a word, no! But please post some pics!

I'm reviving this thread from August to ask that you post up some of those pictures you have of the chrome boot plinth install. It's probably somewhat straightforward, but I'm certainly interested in making the boot button operational for my 1997. It would be very helpful for me (and many others in the future) if you could give us some visuals.

Thanks -

The push button is a nice feature, no fumbling for keys and it locks automaticly when you lock the doors with the remote. I really didn't fully appreciate it at first, seemed sort of a gimmick, but I think it's great now.

OK no worries I will do one under a new thread, also showing the opening of the number plate light units, not necessary but as original.

I would like to replace the color coded one on my 2003 XKR for a chrome one. Any for sale out there? I believe all the XK8's had the chrome ones. My 2001 XK8 has the chrome one and that's the type I want.

Default I need one

My 2000 black XK8 needs a replacement trunk trim piece, mine is cracked. The used one I bought some time ago was damaged in shipping. They seem to be sort of hard to find...

Thanks
