Tuning results on a 5.0L NA XK
Here is what Jaguar recommends: TSB and PDF attached. Do what you want of course but I'd follow the recommendations myself. I use an Astron 50 amp myself. low noise. The only time I don't bother connecting it is if I were to run a check for and/ or clear DTC's.
That's some great information right there. I will immediately order a 50 amp and return the 15 once it gets here. You likely just saved me a bunch of time, frustration and expense!
I guess I'll post a quick, possibly final update:
I've ordered a Schumacher charger like the one that Cee Jay recommended.
I haven't gotten any email return from RSC which is odd considering how prompt they have been in the past regarding correspondence. I went to their website and all information regarding tuning has been scrubbed from it for all makes and models. Old links take me to 404 errors. I'm guessing something has changed there.
AlexJag isn't available to work with me. The only other group that I talked to that seemed capable when it came to NA cars was Paramount Performance but with them being across the Atlantic that complicates things, so... no tuning for my XK. That's the end of the thread.

Well I don't have much of a choice at this point. Looks like no one is working with NA cars.
Talk to Jags at ETG. I had them do a tune on my 2012 XK. If you would like to see the after tune dyno run pm me you email address and I will send a copy on to you. For some reason I can't post it. By the way ETG is a sponsor member of the Forum and will probably give you a discount. I also had a Mina exhaust on the XK at the time of the Dyno run and the results speak for them-self. Applying a 20% multiplier the new BHP was 408 and increase of about 6%. The guy at the dyno shop used a 25% multiplier for a result of 425BHP. Anyway, let me know if you want a copy of the printout.
I wanted to post up an update for anyone who is interested, as it was supposed to be a big week on this end, although things seem to have changed.
Much to my chagrin and to my detriment it looks like user AlexJag is not going to be working with me on this particular project. ...

Was it his decision? If so, why? Is he worried about another tuner stealing his work product? Or should we be concerned that his tune isn't all that he claims it to be?
Anyone else have experience with AlexJag's tunes, either with 4.2L or 5.0L NA or SC engines?

Sorry to hear. Nothing lower, sleazier, scummier than someone who steals another's hard earned assets.
Well if you must know, true to my character I made a joke that AlexJag took offense to, which is not a shot at him at ALL. He was completely justified. I sometimes don't realize that nuances don't come through when I am typing/texting to someone that doesn't know me. I'm the type of person that is smiling and laughing all the time, and it can come across as abrasive or off putting and I abrasively put him off from dealing with me.
However, I apologized, pleaded, and finally threatened to bodily toss myself off my office balcony and he relented. The past few days has been in preparation. The tuning laptop + equipment is here. I have a pre-tune dyno run as well as a read from the car regarding the current settings. There is some more information that he wants to know along the lines of commanded AFR and so on, which I intend to provide today once I get an android phone fired up and Torque Pro installed. (DashCommand will record that data but frankly it's a little screwy). I also had to order a big 50amp maintainer for the battery. Fingers crossed, all things going well, the tune will be in the car tonight or tomorrow I suspect.
DO NOT suspect that he backed out initially because he was afraid of the tune or the results. He stepped back because I am routinely an asshat and he rightfully didn't want to deal with that.
I did reach out to Jags at ETC and I got back a very short reply that indicated that I'd get a lot better results if I had an XKR.

I have the same problems and am always happy and smiling...in fact have never had a bad day in my entire life, well a few but my SoH sort of protects me
This is a true example of when my father was disconnected from life support in 2011, anyone that's gone through it knows a Doctor has to be present, convo went like this:
Dr - Once the machines are switched off we will place you father in a room with ambient lighting, choral music and flowers, 98% of those placed there pass quietly in the night.
Me - (smiling) Doctor find me a room with better odds
Dr - Sorry?
Me - Find me a room with better odds as the way I figure things, not only has death got a seat in the corner, he also has a rest for his scythe
Dr - In over 30yrs of doing this essential but emotionally draining job no one has approached things quite like that
Me - (grinning) If you don't have your sense of humour what else do you have??
And before anyone asks, no I didn't inherit anything, I told him to give it all to charity
Good luck with the tune, I know you've quite a few peeps interested in the results!

I thought I would deliver a quick update. There was a delay over some diagnostic info that Alex wanted from the car, things like the long term fuel trim at constant speeds, the commanded AFR at wide open throttle and so on. I was using Dash Command to pull that information it it wasn't making sense at all. For example I was getting back that the commanded AFR at wide open throttle was 14.2:1, which is ridiculously lean. There was other oddness as well.
Torque Pro would seem to give better numbers and while it is an android only app and iOS is my life-distractor of choice, I happen to have a couple android phones laying around that I use for development work. I could go into a couple of paragraphs about some of the issues that we had getting the silly thing to talk to the car, but once we did: Today at 4:16PM I managed to suck the data out of the car that was needed. The data is good, it's clean, it's what everyone expected to see, so all is good.
I have to say that given the amount of patience and time that Alex has put into this so far, he is charging less than he should. This has been a lot of effort on his part for 25 horsepower.

On top of that I personally have to consider not only the cost of the exhaust itself, but what things like a custom exhaust do to the resale value of the car. That probably doesn't mean much to people that have multiple Aston Martins and so on, but I do view the car as an investment that I'd like to get as much back out of when the time comes as I can, reasonably.
I sound like I am being challenging and I don't mean to. What I'm really doing is throwing my own internal thoughts out into the open in the hopes that you (or anyone) can bat them down and show me some unquestionable and provable gains that I can use to justify and rationalize spending the money/burning the equity on an exhaust system.
If anyone has before and after dyno pulls or 1/4 mile slips it would certainly get my full attention. I often like the way that a 3rd party exhaust sounds, and that alone could be worth the price, but real world HP gains vs the dollars spent seems like an investment that might best be spent elsewhere.
Prove me wrong! Please!
