A Veteran Dismantler opinion of the XK
Hello XK and XKR owners!!
I recently opened a new business specializing in dismantling late model jaguars. With only limited resources and trying to keep my overhead low I've done all of the dismantling myself. My 1st car was a 2007 XK coupe and I must say I am very impressed. From the alloy body to the drive train, from the sweet smelling interior to the awesome electronics I was very impressed. I've taken this vehicle completely apart selling both doors, one quarter panel and other parts. I'd be happy to help answer questions about the XK being the car is somewhat unusual in the way it comes apart.
I really like the alloy body and plan to build a XKR convertible in the near future. I plan to sand blast every panel and finish with only clear and a faded in wide stripe. Just wondering what you guys thought of the idea. Not sure if the metal will sand and finish evenly.

I think building a 'vert in bare aluminum (and clear coat, obviously) would be KILLER. Nix the white stripe though (IMO). It will only distract from the car's natural beauty and the fact that has a freaking RAW ALUMINUM FINISH! I would LOVE a factory option in 'raw' aluminum, though body damage would be a b*tch and a half...
Just post pics as you build her...

This should be awesome, I have seen this done with hotrods from back in the 30's, would be awesome to see on a newer car. When you sand it just make sure you get down to a fine grit (2000 - up) to make sure there are no sand scratches left in the panels and it will look incredible. If you treat it like there was paint on it, then it should really come up. I would use a paint stripper to take off the bulk of the paint, making sure its safe for the aluminum. Then you won't have to worry about going at with a 120 or 220 sandpaper. Just home there are no dings in the panels under the paint, or you will be french wheeling them smooth, as a hammer and dolly will not give a surface you can display raw.

It would be tough to match the raw aluminum with out a custom printed wrap. and that may not look good. Perhaps carbon fiber with the raw aluminum, or even do just two racing stripes in the raw look and the res of the car painted may look awesome.

Been real busy with the new biz or I would have replied faster sry.
Do I need to host my own pics to post on here?
That's a good point on the moldings, not sure. The stripe I think would work but would have to be faded in and black. I was thinking it could be shot with only clear, maybe a little pearl mixed in but I'am not a painter. Not sure how it would look. I'am having a couple porsche repaired atm so I'll have my guy spray a test panel or 2.
I'll post some pics of the coupe I cut up. The inner structure is impressive seems so much better than steel.
