Had an X150 owner on FB that says his replacement ABS module is "VIN locked", and that used parts can't be installed as a replacement.

First I've heard of it. Is this true? I'd have assumed SDD can install and program any XK module, new or used.

I'd appreciate some experience on this one. Thanks!

Don't know about ABS but headlights module I replaced used was vin locked.

 

That sucks, I understand the idea of tying a module to a VIN, but the dealership should be able to unlock any module and apply any programming mods to the module of the recipient vehicle.

 

How did it affect your replacement? What kind of programming did you have to use, and was the result normal operation or more complicated? Were you able to install it yourself with sdd?

 

Only new, vin-free part can be installed (and SDD to program it)

 

The w211 Mercedes also have this issue if trying to replace ABS module , you can not overwrite a second hand unit .
