Default What do you all think about this body kit?

Take a look:
Jaguar XKR XK8 Complete Styling Package for Jaguar XKR

Nice and aggressive, or too much? Seems nice to me; a bit more than stock, but not garish. Certainly reasonably priced, factor in paint and install and you'd be set for what, ~$1,750... Of course that's $ that would more than cover a nice ECU upgrade for mucho power, so form over function I guess.

Am I being too kind to this kit? Is it up to the caliber of our car's appearance, or would it detract from the already beautiful lines?

Opinions appreciated,

Skeeter

Just FYI...Chris at Mina offered $1450 (which includes shipping, $150) for the following pieces:

XKR-S style front splitter
XKR-S style side skirts
XKR-S style rear spoiler
XKR-S style rear valance

They will come paint-to-match. So that's all of the Mina versions of Jag's aerodynamic package/XKR-S package for just a little more than the one at which you are looking.

The rear valance on that kit you linked is kind of strange looking...it's sort of a squared off look with the rest of the car "curvacious"...

Anyway, just wanted to pass along the info...

The car does not need these enhancements nor do they IMHO improve the look.

Not to worry. The kit does "personalise" the car and some folks consider that worth the price.

I'm genuinely subject to expert opinion on such matters. I do dig it and would enjoy having something individualized that would keep people guessing, that is true. But without seeing it in person, it's a tough call to make.

Even stock, more than half of the compliments the car gets start with, "excuse me, what make is your car?"; given the low production of the newer style coupes, there's a good argument to be made that the car doesn't call for exterior mods of this fashion. And I'd hate to look back years later and realize that I ruined a car that looked better stock...

I'll look for more feedback here, but you all have tipped the scales into 'wait' mode for now.

Gotta say I like the looks of the XKR more than the XKR S, call me crazy. I looked for a link to the kits you describe, rscultho, but can't find any mention of the bits you mention. Send us a link if you have one, appreciate it... But I am looking to enhance the XKR rather than turn it into an S. I'd like to see what they offer and how much of it enhances what we have as opposed to changing it to the newer nose and front end.

Thanks to all,

Skeeter

Oh no, not talking about changing the nose. The parts I reference below from Mina are also available OEM, albeit at a higher price, and would be known to Jaguar as the Aerodynamic package. These parts - as the Aerodynamic package - was an option on the 2010+ cars at time of purchase.

Page from which I referenced teh individual links:

Mina front splitter for 2010+:

Mina Side Skirts:

Mina Rear Valence/Diffuser:

Skeeter, I look at it like this, if you want to personalise your car, go right ahead.

But, as we all know, in terms of really long term value, unmodified cars tend to be king.

Note "tend".

Back in the 80's body kits were all the rage, outrageous wings, skirts, dams, you name it. These cars fetched a premium then.

Times change and move forward, they are all in the scrapyard today.

Having said that, have a look at Ghostrider's car, sends me all of a dither when I see and hear it.

It's not offensive nor extreme . The best stuff is made of pp however some producers still insist on using fiber . Fiber is cheap yet durable but it's not like ABS or pp

I like these pieces better than the first one. These are replica's of the parts Jaguar makes.
For a more exotic look, there are kits by Prior Design, Arden and Star Tech that take the XKR to another level. They cost more than a Civic though.

Someone mentioned the XKR-S. I hate the fake vents on the side of the front bumper. They like fake eyelashes to me.

Someone mentioned that bodykits reduced the value of a car??? Please explain that one to me!

I make fiberglass parts for MGBs, and $1,450 for 2 side skirts and a rear valance seems pretty steep. But, I'm I keep a tight hold on my wallet.

I guess I'm making parts for the wrong market.

It also includes front splitter and spoiler...I don't think I would pay that much for fiberglass either.

The ( fake ) Vents are not installed to look like vents a all , they are installed to give the front end more stabillity.
