Default What do your brakes feel like?

2010 xkr brakes kind of feel spongy at the top / there is no initial bite and the firmness is lacking. Is this normal?

Recently did a brake fluid flush with ate200 and pressure bleeder. Have done this multiple times on other cars so I don’t think bleeding is the issue. The pads rotors are about 50% worn. I saw textar on the pads. The fluid flush helped maybe 20% with the feel (more firm, sooner).

I am comparing this to a 80s bmw and a 997 911 which both have more firmness immediately but similar lack of initial bite (which is fine, I prefer linear gradual) but it’s the initial firmness which is concerning.

how would you describe your brake pedal feel? Thanks

I have gotten rid of that problem by removing the caliper pins in the rear brakes, for a good cleaning and small lube.

I find the pedal on mine a bit light and initial travel a little longer than I would ideally like but everything works really well. The original Jurid pads were a higher friction grade than most other comparable pads (GG for the C2D3801 compared to FE for the Textars), giving better initial bite and good temp. stability. Jaguar really didn't skimp on the pad choice.

The combination of the slightly light pedal but grippy pads seems right to me. I actually found a Ferodo GG pad (FDB5014) pad for the back instead of the FF-rated ATE (C2D3792) originally fitted and I like that balance a bit better still but that might just be because I expect it to be better Light braking seems easier and heavy braking shows no noticeable problems.

Also, Jaguars and many modern cars with ABS and stability control systems should have the thinner brake fluid (ATE SL6 instead of SL or SL200).

On the list of things to do when I got my 2008 XKR was to replace the pads and disc's /rotors. This is just something I do with any car I buy. My breaks worked fine however I have always used MTEC disc's cross drilled and groved with mintex pads, my brakes went from good to excellent. If I breathe on the break pedal to hard I will headbutt the wind screen. This is just my preference, with plenty of go you need plenty of woow to use a horse term. :-) I used tthis combo for years, fiorst on my X350, various Audi's, Mercedes and my present forever XKR
