Or another way to look at it is how relevant our shape and purpose still is a decade later.

Ford's poached so many styling cues from AM, Jaguar, and Land Rover over the last several years that it's almost come full circle, and to my eyes, the new Aston Martins are now more evocative of the current Mustang than they are of older AMs or the x150.

New stangs look stubbier than our XKR's. Definitely look like little fat kids trying to catch the kitty cat.

Exactly. Just like the new AMs which seem to be going in the stubbier direction.

Could still be.............................

The front gaping maw on the DBS is garish. Looks to be an even-worse rip-off of the Lexus.
Groosssssssssss
Now for a GOOD looking car, one would need a Vanquish:

Aston has been making that iconic grille since 60's, when Lexus was only making mopeds
But yes its a bit too loud

I’m with Cee Jay. Aston Martin’s turning that iconic grill into a caricature.

LC500s look OK, but are under powered and not as good chassis-wise...... or so I've heard and read. A replacement should be BETTER, not worse or the same.

There is ONLY one suitable XK successor and it already exists.

Is Ian Callum's long lost brother Billy Crystal?

That's not a coincidence, it's Callum's brother Moray who designed several notable Ford model including the XK8 era Ford Taurus, the new Mustang, the new rover derived Explorer and XK8 era Mazda Miata redesign, products that literally are clones of his brother's Aston, Jaguar & Rover work.

It would be interesting to see what designers would do when you no longer have to have a grill when dealing with electric cars.

Currently, I feel that grills jumped the shark. Not just AM, most brands offer design that are too much grill. Even Camry (in XSE trim) has one.

I do believe that the term "jumped the shark" has indeed jumped the shark!

Its definitely overdone across the board.
Its vulgar and out of place on the entire Toyota, Lexus, Acura and others where there isnt enough cowboy behind the big hat.
However, we may be punishing the genuine article due to our over-stimulation to the imitators.
One thing is for certain- the sight of that AM grille in your rearview mirror telegraphs just one thing- move bitch.
