Why is the driver side mat so short
I wonder why they decided to make the driver side floor mat so much shorter then the passenger side. Do you think it was to avoid the mat being caught up with the brake and gas peddle.
Nearly ALL cars have the driver's side shorter, at least the one's I've owned. No need for a mat to go behind the pedals where feet can't go. Passenger side is longer because people's feet go all the way to the firewall.

Yes. There have been more than a million vehicle recalls due to floor mat safety issues. Toyota paid over $1 Billion in a settlement over their acceleration problems, at least partially blamed on floor mats.
It's a practical decision as Cee Jay points out but bottom line is that it's a (very wise) business decision.
Yea I remember the Toyota issue and I had to bring my Lexus back to get the gas peddle cut down. The mat still goes up under the peddles. Interesting enough this is the 1st car that I have owned that the mat doesn't go up under the peddle.
By the way I stick my size 13's under the peddle when I'm driving on Cruise.

My XK didn't have floor mats when I got it, I put in the set from my 944 as an iterm. They are much longer, and I *did* have it stick the throttle WOT on me. The first time I didn't know what was going on and shut the car off. The second time I popped my foot behind the pedal and pulled it back.
Now I have the proper shorter mats from Jaguar, and have been problem free.
The design of the pedal box effects it. My 944 has mats that extend up under the pedals, but the problem has never happened.
