Default Window drop on door opening

Hi everyone,

I have a vague problem.. when you open the doors on a convertible, the window I think drops a few mm.. (to avoid the roof rubber). but often that does not happen on my car and very occasionally the roof drops just 2mm or so.. not enough to clear the roof..

I'm afraid this will at the end kill my roof or door.. as I have to slam it to just to get it closed.

did anyone experience the same.. and where to begin looking for the troubles

Mine does the same thing at times. I just close the door back, pull out on the handle again and it will usually drop the second time.

Could be that one of the sensors is faulty. Or perhaps the window needs resetting (open all the way by holding down the button & hold for for a further 2s, close all the way & hold for 2s)

This is ONE of the symptoms of a battery voltage drop: unless your battery is less than 3 years old, or if your use of the car is not every day, and if the trips in the car are short, then you should replace the battery AND fit permanently a battery minder (CTEK is the preferred brand). The XK requires full battery voltage ALWAYS; when it does not have it, random symptoms appear - the ones you describe as well as others such as problems with seats, windows, navigation screen, door locks, electric roof, warning lights, etc. The symptoms suggest major electronic problems - all the symptoms are caused by a less than fully charged battery. Jaguar, in fact, markets the CTEK charger under its own name but at an inflated price. This unit should be plugged in whenever the car is not actually in use. Result: ZERO problems with electronic components, ever.
One other possibility: the micro switch in the door latch. But you might also try resetting the windows: lower the window, hold the switch for several second; raise the window; hold the switch. lower it again. My bet is on the battery,

The car is driven very regularly between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.. a 140km one-way trip.. I bought the car in Nov 2012, with 9000km.. and now its up to 42.000.. So I'd say its used pretty often..

Six years is really pushing it, regardless of anything, you need a new battery before some things do start going wrong.

Heat to a battery is worse than cold temps......probably time for a new one and add the CTEK smart battery maintainer.

Bringing this one back to life... I have the same issue, only with the passenger window. Replaced the battery, tried the reset, still does not drop for the vast majority of the time. Very rarely will it go down, I have tried to replicate every single scenario which might cause it, but it seems so intermittent. Every time I bring it to the dealer the window seems to drop just fine at that moment of course. I want them to replace the whole assembly, but they keep telling me they need to see it happen to justify it... the dealer is not that close to me otherwise I would be there everyday lol!
