Unhappy XK convertible top stuck after battery recharge

The battery on my wife's '07 XK convertible died - totally discharged - would not even respond to the remote key to unlock the door. Jumped it yesterday, and immediately took it for a long drive. After 1 hour I slowed down to put the top down. The top started to release, but suddenly froze in a partially released position - and would not respond to either up or down switch. I assume this has something to do with the battery going completely dead? Is there an easy fix for this - or must I take it to the mechanic? Thanks!

Follow the Manual Top Reset procedures in the Owner's Manual. It's a free download.

Oh, also, all of the WINDOWS should have gone down BEFORE the top released. Your front windows are up, why? That's not right. And, a Window Reset should have been accomplished before using the Top, but it still should have gone down all the way. The Window Reset procedure is ALSO in the User Manual.

Do you have the red warning triangle when you start the car up now?

Also, try to CLOSE it a few times (using the button) after a restart. I've been told to press-and-hold that button for a loooooooong time, like 60 secs, though that hasn't worked for me.
If that doesn't work, then yeah, manual reset which will involve opening the top all the way, dropping into its place underneath the toneau cover, and closing that cover.

Mr Smith, I have been fighting with my roof for a week after changing the battery and have had similer issues. Let the pressure out of the pump with a counter turn, you will have to wait a few minutes for the presure to ease and the top will drop to the top latch. Then do as these fine folks suggest who also have helped me and let us know how it works. Im still manually operating my roof after numerous reset trys however when down I close the pump release 1 turn and it will lock down the roof but wont close up the same way, my roof stops exactly where youyrs does in the picture.

I still don't understand how the windows are up. That's NOT how it's supposed to work.

Upon pushing the control to Raise the roof...............
Front Windows Down
Rear Windows Down
Tonneau Open
Roof comes up 3/4
Tonneau Close
Rear of Roof Down, Front of Roof begins to lower
Front of roof lowers to top of windscreen frame
Front Roof latches engage
Rear Windows up
Front Windows up

Cee Jay Ive done all the resets numerous times, Steve suggested at least 10 trys on the windows, tried. My rear windows went down and didnt come up and also had some error messages like low tire presure, traction controllight etc. No brainer and changed batttery and all was good except my rear windows will still not move or go up. It looks like Ill have to bite the bullet and head to the dealership. Only thing I havent tried is disconnecting the battery again or touch the 2 cable ends together for a reset. Ive read about touching the cables on my old X100 for a reset but unsure if its thte thing to do for the X150.

A Hard Reset (touching cables together for awhile) is a very common thing for the X150. I do it once in awhile 'just cuz'. It clears up many a problem with our cars.

For Cee Jay,
Will a hard reset do any good to cure the TPMS problem of recurring "Check Tire Pressure" warnings?
Has anyone tried it?

Try checking the TPMS sensors for battery life. Go to a tire installer and they can check them . If they are between 7 and 10 years old most likely the battery in them is bad.

A word of caution: I regularly started getting TPMS messages. I had my batteries tested at a tire shop and they tested fine. My car was still under CPO warranty so I went to the dealer and they said both of my front sensors needed to be replaced. They replaced both front sensors and I haven't had the message reappear.

What's the status of your C8, jagtoes?

Since this was asked of ME, I'll answer now........
No, a Reset will only clear the error until it comes back, maybe 20 miles.
I've changed and reflashed every module in my car, changed all sensors and initiators, checked the wiring and nothing has worked.
Next time I have SDD hooked up I'm going to Remove the option of TPMS from my car.

Hey Guys - a huge thanks for all your tips and support. After trying the owner's manual procedure twice -and totally flunking I got desperate and took it to Top Line Jaguar in Springfield VA. After a few days they informed me their mechanic had spent over an hour diagnosing the problem - to no avail - and would need more hours to isolate the fault. But I got the eerie sense their service manager was prepping me for a royal con job, so I asked them to put the top up so I could take it back home. BTW they charge $136/hr, and charged me an additional 1.5 hours to put the roof up. Spent several hundred dollars for precisely NOTHING. I've got 3 Jags but I'm never going back to these guys. Wound up taking it to my local shop - Mountain Valley Motors in Harrisonburg VA. They diagnosed and fixed it the top perfectly - in less than an hour for a total cost of $50. BTW, I also had a fuel line leak that Top Line Jag estimated at $948 to repair - which Mtn. Valley Motors repaired for about $100! I love these guys...don't know why I doubted taking the car to them in the first place. And no, I don't have any affiliations with that shop. Hank and Tim are just smart, honest, hard-working mechanics.

Hey See Jay,

Did you ever remove the tire sensor warnings? Mine drive me nuts and the local tire shop gets a good reading from the sensor batteries.
