Hi, so unusually it's been a fantastic Summer here in the UK and the XKR has done many more miles than usual and has been utterly faultless. Now I'm pretty good with the oily bits but electrifrickery is not my forte so I'd be grateful of a bit of guidance if anyone can help.
Took the car out for a run out to a country pub last night and had a message on the dash saying I had an indicator fault, sure enough the rear indicators were flashing fast and there was no sign of anything happening up front (Right hand side)...No worries new bulb..sorted. But when it came to take our leave of the hostelry I also had no headlight on the same side, either dip or main beam...how odd.
Looking at it again this evening the front headlight indicator bulb is flashing but very dim as is the repeater on the front wing, if I take the indicator bulb out of the headlight assembly the side repeater flashes brightly. Thinking I may have a failed headlight assembly I swopped the headlights over and the fault is repeated with the opposite assembly, whereas the suspect headlight works fine on the other side. Also just noticed when you put the Right hand indicator on the sidelights go out at well, but come back on once the indicator is cancelled.
I'm assuming there must be an earthing fault or some damage to the loom. Does anyone out there have a pinout of the headlight plug so I can check voltage and earth? I had the earth strap replaced last year as it looked a bit grim.
Give your stalk a few slaps and see if anything happens - this can fail on the wiper contact points and cause weird light behaviour -- if that doesnt do anything.... hmmm
