Hi:
I own a 2014 Jaguar XK, and I would like to fit on it the XKR rear box exhaust. Just the end part, silencers and trims, as the pic that I attach here.
What I would like to know is if it's possible to fit it on my XK. I've read some posts that talk about thinking of replacing it, but none from someone who has already replaced it.
And, if it is possible, is it difficult to do? Is it a hard work?
How should it be done?
Thanks.
Replacing that back box is fairly simple (unless the pipes won’t separate, but some wiggling and light wacks with a mallet will usually loosen it up).
The hangers will match up, so pretty straight forward.
The only thing is, you need a replacement lower valence (Jaguar calls it a lower extension), as the spacing for the exhaust tips needs to be wider.
This was relatively inexpensive on the 4.2L, but I’ve read that the 5.0L part is more expensive.
Also something to consider is that you won't have the active mode in the exhaust, unless you can somehow figure out how to install the vacuum pumps. Not sure where you live but It might be cheaper and a better outcome to get an aftermarket unit - you'd save a bunch of weight too doing this. Otherwise what kj07xk has said is true and is a pretty simple affair to mount.
Thanks to both.
If I don't have the active mode, does it mean that the valves will be opened permanently? And, if they are permanently opened, does it mean that the nicer sound will also be permanent?
As far as I know the best sound on an XKR is when valves are opened, right?
I did it to my XK and it was one of the easiest modifications I have done. Once in the air, the swap literally took about 30 minutes. Just remember you will also need the XKR rear valence.
My car has no vacuum system for opening and closing the valves, so. gasp if you will........I simply JB Welded the valves in the open position. I don't regret taking that step as it's not too loud under normal acceleration and makes a wonderful noise when hard on the gas.
If you keep your eyes and ears open, you'll probably come across a 2010+ XKR muffler for not a lot of money. Likely even less expensive that an aftermarket option. I found mine for around $350, as i recall:

The default position is ‘open’, so no need to secure it. I just stuck a short piece of garden hose on each vacuum pipe (with the other end folded over to keep the dirt out of the valves).
