XKR No Start No crank
Hi all,
I have a 2014 XKR 5.0L Supercharged. I purchased the car non running. I have since fixed the mechanical issues but when I attempt to start I get just a single click from the starter.
The previous owner had the car sitting for several months or more with a dead battery.
I have a new battery in the car. I have removed the starter and had it tested and it works great.
I have checked and cleared the engine codes that were on the car which was a U0401 Invalid data received from ecm/pcm.
The above code was due to me having the front bumper off the car.
I brought the bumper close to the car and plugged the harness back in and was able to clear the code.
My key fob is accepted by the center console slot but does not work on the door locks etc. I have a new fresh battery in the key fob as well.
Any ideas on what I can try to get the car to at least crank over would be great.

First try a Hard Reset. See Post #14:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-reset-248620/
Then try to start the engine, but press the START button before you step on the brake pedal. Yes, I know that's the opposite of what the Owner's Handbook says, but trust me, it works.
If that doesn't work, insert the fob into the center console slot, and wait for it to be pulled down. Then press the START button before you step on the brake pedal.
If the engine doesn't start, I suspect that fob either has a dead CR2032 battery (even though it's new) or that battery is not making good contact with the prongs. Do not try to bend the prongs as they are brittle and they break you'll have to buy a new Smartkey. Instead, make a small shim from a piece of aluminum foil to place under that CR2032 battery.
If it still doesn't start, I suspect that fob isn't paired to the car. Or you have a bad switch at your brake pedal.
Do you have both fobs?

Not sure if this could help in your scenario, but when I serviced my transmission I forgot to make sure the manual shift lever was in the right place. So the car didn't recognize it was in gear. When I tried to start the car, I had the same symptoms you had.
Silvertones - I did lift the lever in the center console to put the car in neutral as it would not role on its own.
I have it back down, but is there something that I need to look for to make sure it is correct???

I currently have no trouble codes, there was 1 historical code of U0401-86 Invalid data received from ECM/PCM.
That code cleared when I plugged the front bumper harness back in.
I do see on the screen a Gearbox fault and also the adaptive dynamics fault and also restricted performance.

As the code provided does follow the standard display form of a DTC, may I ask what code reader you are using?
As for starting procedures, have you seen section “Electronic Engine Controls” in the workshop manual?
Finally, when you mention “click” I interpret that as one of two root scenarios. The easy one, not enough current. The harder one, another system over wrote the start procedure request. Thos is also laid out in the electrical manual.

Thank you for the information I will look at the "Electronic Engine Controls" section.
I am using a ELM 327 WIFI ODBII scanner to read the codes.
I was using an older hand scanner held but I could not clear the old codes with it.

I have verified today that my key fob is working using a remote tester. All buttons send out a signal.
I will now turn to getting the key fob paired back to the car.
Also, has anyone heard of the body control module getting corrupt and needing to be reprogrammed if the battery is dead too long???
Or does that pertain only to other models???
