Your consumptions
Hi everybody!
I'm surprised not to find any discution in this section about your consumptions. Maybe that I didn't use the appropriate keywords?
Could you please indicate:
-your car (xk, xkr, xkrs) and engine (4.2, 5.0)
-your best figure ever (and in which circonstances)
-your worst figure ever (and in which circonstances)
-your mean figure on the wotorway (at which mean speed)
-your mean figure in town
-your mean figure when mixing both
As I live in France, figures in l/100km would be deeply appreciated!
Thanks!

Hello,
I drink about 6 cups of tea a day; oh, you mean gas mileage!l A little British humor.
My 2007 XK Coupe gets very good mpg, 22-24 (US) local and freeway (65 mph).
Almost as good as the 2012 Honda CRV I just bought; but the Honda is improving with age, 800 total miles so far (25 mpg).
I'm very pleased with the Jag it's the best one I've ever owned! 14 so far over 50 years.
Hope this helps you; remember a Jag is like a Boat, fuel costs are not important and usually the least of your costs!!
Cheers, Adrian

My '08 4.2L XK has returned over 26 US MPG for the past 10K driving. Of course, close to 90 percent of my driving is on freeways at speeds near 70MPH.
My 2012 XJL with the 5.0L engine thus far has shown nearly 27MPG over the same roads. (2200 miles total)

I can do even better at 25mph
Thank you everybody!
I was affraid to read worse figures.
I tested A 2007 XKR this week-end, and the computer displayed 24l/100 (10mn driving in the city, cold engine, rather quiet driving, as I didn't have space to push the engine)

I picked up my 2003 S type 3.0 6-speed automatic in Los Angeles and drove on Hwy 5 for about 300 miles to Los Banos, 70 mph, 2100 rpm, air conditioning on.
That was over the grapevine and some stop and go traffic with 98 degrees average outside temperature. 105 in LA. Instrument cluster said 32 mpg average. Calculated from miles driven and fuel added, 29 mpg.
Around town it is getting a real 19 to 24 mpg, depending how often I use the freeway. I am easy on the accelerator.
And those are 'mericun gallons, not goofy Imperial gallons. :P

Consider that those little league gallons are only used in *one* country ... which one is goofy?
The only unambiguous measure is L/100km as neither unit of measure is open to confusion.
Of course, km/L would be easier on the brain but for some reason the convention is L/100km.
For the purposes of discussion on JF, it couldn't be easier ... just hit the km/miles button on the trip computer and let it do the conversion.

Second test of a 2007 xkr. Still in town.
This time, I got 27l/100km. In fact, it was 37l/100km during almost all the test, and it dropped from 37 to 27 in the last 2 minutes.
So maybe it's either the engine that drinks a lot when it's cold, or the compute that makes very odd calculations when it doesn't have enough data...
