Default Clutch Fluid Questions?

I have inherited a 60 xk150. I have been having problems shifting into gear with it making a grinding sound. It only seems to do this after it has been running for a while. The resovoir is about 1/2 to 3/4 full. Is this the proper level and what is the recommended fluid/break fluid to use on this? Thanks for any help!

Any DOT 3 or 4 fluid. I specifically use 4 on the old English cars. I mentioned 3 to quell any arguments. You might check fluid in tranny as some started using 90W and these older cars used 30W or whatever you had for the engine. I am working on one now that was using 90W and it covered the noise. you might pull top cover off tranny and check to see if syncros are worn, but if it waits till it warms up I would check and change oil.
