Fuel tank sender orientation?
When I got my XK-120 back from the restorer, the fuel tank gauge was inoperative. Mistakenly believing that I knew how it was wired, I – incorrectly – believed the sender was defective, and ordered a new sender. When the new sender did not function as expected, I was able to learn that the two terminals were for different functions – "level” – and -- “low fuel warning” — both to mechanical ground.
After finally getting the electrical connections right, I remain unenlightened as to how the sender is to be oriented. The six mounting screws seem to ensure that the float swings in an arc -- either forward or aft of the sender -- and because the mounting surface is not horizontal, the orientation will matter.
Does anyone know which way the float is supposed to be oriented relative to the sender opening in the tank?
BTW, on the SNGBarratt sender, the “W” terminal is for the low-fuel Warning lamp; the “L” terminal is for the fuel Level, itself.
Thanks!
