Default Looking for matching 3.4l engine and gearbox

Hi All

I recently got myself some new fun by acquiring an incomplete ex Californian project car. The original engine was replaced with a 4.2l and automatic trans at some point in the vehicles history.

Right now I'm doing the math to find out whether or not it is worth to restore this car. Good news is that there is no rust on chassis and body and it came with a tempting color combination pastel green with suede green interior. However I know already now that the restoration costs will likely exceed the cars value after restoration. Things would look a little different if I was able to locate the original engine and gearbox of this car.

I'm in contact with the previous owner to figure out of the whereabouts of the original engine and gearbox, but I figured I'd try my luck here as well.
Maybe someone knows someone who knows someone...

The engine serial number is G4787-8S
The gearbox serial number is JLE31290
Both items are likely located in California, as the car was originally sold in Los Angeles and now acquired in California.
It does not matter in what state the items are.

I know the likelihood of finding that particular engine is virtually zero. I'm also open for alternatives.

Thanks,
Chris
