When I got my 140 the chrome center trim came with two holes in it towards the front indicating that at one time it may have had a leaping jaguar ornament. The chrome strip fits well to the hood and I have no reason to think that it is not original, and the holes do not appear to have been drilled after market. Has anyone seen this? I can't seem to find an ornament to fit this either. My only alternative seems to be to have them filled and the strip re-chromed.
I looked at the SNG Barratt web pages for the XK140 and also photos of the car, and it seems no leaper was ever fitted to these cars. If a leaper had been fitted it was normal Jaguar practice to have the chrome strip in two parts, with the leaper forming part of the strip, like a Mark 2 saloon. So it looks as if somebody decided they wanted a leaper and drilled the chrome trim. It would have looked somewhat incongruous as it would never have fitted properly.
Well, yes, there will be more than a few people wanting a leaper, it is the Jaguar icon that tells everybody you are a gentleman (or lady), of taste and discrimination !! However, I think these are not fitted by Jaguar. If you want a leaper, you'll need to look around for one that fits best. The XK traditional sports cars are not my forte, I'm afraid.
