I've inherited a 53 XK120 FHC. It runs but came with the starting carb (choke) detached. See pics. The manual doesn't seem to have images depicting how to hook up. I new to this car so just learning. Any photos or descriptions are appreciated as O would like to get this on and working properly. Thanks. Detached choke assembly.
If the car is starting and running OK without the starting carby I suspect someone has modified the carby system.
The large silver pipe would normally bolt to the bottom of the inlet manifold. That hole in the manifold must be blocked off if the engine does run
The smaller pipe would bolt to the base of one of the carbies, typically the front one. There should also be a steel carrier plate which is held on the base of the carby and that is missing.
One of the wires would go to the Otter switch up front on the intake manifold where it would monitor water temperature. Normally closed but switches open around 32 degrees C (about 85 Fahrenheit)
The other wire goes to the ignition circuit and becomes live when the ignition is turned on.
Check around the carbies to see if someone has changed them for a type with manual enrichment systems using a "choke cable" or something similar.
