I am trying to replace the hood release cable to my 1957 XK140 FHC. I have removed all apparent nuts and bolts that mount the release latch to the front of the car but I am not able to remove the metal piece that is above the mechanism that moves the release. I can't tell if there are parts welded to the housing that entraps the mechanism or if I am missing something I need to do to get at the release. The current cable is too long by over 1' and opening the hood is a PITA to say the least.
