Please forgive me if this has already been covered umpteen times, but my searches didn't find anything addressing my specific query.

I am considering fitting an electronic distributor to my 1957 XK150 that still has a 1957 Lucas DMBZ6A distributor.

The various available electronic distributors refer to slightly later Lucas distributors - I've seen DM6, 22D6, 25D6 and 45D6 for example.

My question is simply would a distributor meant to replace a DM6, 22D6, 25D6 or 45D6 fit straight onto an XK150 (albeit with the wrong advance curves of course)?

The drive slot on the engine and the depth of the housing didn't change at all, only the top part of the distributor. Your proposed electronic fitment should go straight in assuming it is fitted with the correct drive. The slot the distributor drive goes into is slightly off-set as you'll see if you look with a torch. Your new distributor has to have that.


Of course it may not have the correct advance curve as you say, but a lot of this electronic stuff is software based nowadays, and doesn't use springs and weights in the distributor itself.
