Hello,
New owner of a 150 and in Canada. With the lack of specialty stores for things like old english cars can anybody recommend an appropriate, Canada available oil for my XK150?

Thanks in Advance

No special oil is needed for the XK engine. Go to Canadian Tire. Buy any Castrol oil or other name brand (not synthetic) of virtually any variety, in the viscosity suitable for your location and use. Any oil you buy today is far more advanced in every specification than the oils of the 50’s. If you live in Winnipeg and use the car in summer only, you might want a 20w50 oil or even a 15w40 which is what I use in my 3.8 and I use my car all year round on dry roads (butI live in Victoria). For winter use you would obviously want a lighter grade…but nothing lighter than 10w30.

In short, your engine does not require any special oil. Just avoid full synthetics as they will tend to promote leaks.

At the risk of escalating an "oil thread", I am currently using AmsOil 20W-50 Z-Rod synthetic oil in the crankcase of my '52 XK120 with no ill effects or leakage noted from use of this oil in my engine. I use this product because we have high summertime temps here in Lake Havasu City, AZ in excess of 115 F.(or 46 C. for you folks elsewhere that use the Celsius temp scale), and it also has a lot of zinc and other good additives needed for use in older engines. A rust inhibitor is also blended in the oil, which is nice if the car sits a lot.
Just a matter of preference, works for me, any good engine oil will work well in these engines, dinosaur or synthetic. Use what you'd like best, freedom of choice!
Thanks!
