Post Cleaning the rag top

Question for all: My convertable top seems to have several small spots that need to be cleaned. The age of the stain is unknown and I have 6 small spots just below the window, looking for a good way to try to clean them.

Many just clean their canvas tops using their car wash suds and a medium bristle brush--when washing their cars. I've also heard of using lint cleaning rollers (adhesive tape) to get any lint or trash off the tops when they're dry.

I use 303 Fabric/Vinyl Tonneau & Convertible Top Cleaner--followed by an application of 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. (Note: Do not use 303 Protectant, which is an Armorall type product.) 303 Fabric Guard is a water repellent product, and an application is supposed to last something like 3 years. You can often find 303 products @ boat dealerships, but I ordered mine thru Amazon.com.

Another popular convertible top dressing is Raggtop.

Taking care of your convertible top is very important, as replacement is a very expensive proposition. It's really best that convertibles be kept garaged to avoid air pollution soot, etc. from staining the tops.

A lot of folks swear by Raggtop. I used it last year and was happy. Maintenance is important.

My car came with an official Jaguar cleaning kit in the boot: Stiff brush, white foamy cleaner, 4" paintbrush (w/Jaguar logo!), and a pint of liquid waterproofing.

There may be some stains that won't come out of the black top...mine had a small spot below the rear window, it sat too long after bird dropping hit it (size of a pea) Its now a little grey spot (bleaching effect).

Nowdays, any hint of a contaminant gets an instant cleaning! I've learned.

I'm satisfied with Raggtopp. Works great. With either Raggtopp or 303, you need to treat it at least once per season, depending on where you live.
