Steering wheel vibration FIX
Ok, for all the people getting the wheel shimmy when braking or driving at 60, this is how you fix it:
First let me say it is NOT a warped rotor. Stop blowing money on rotors, rotors should last a loonngg time!
I had the shakes develop last week and today i got around to check it out. I took the caliper off and had a look-see at the stuff in there. Everything looked fine, no play in tie rods, ball joints, nothing was a miss. But, i did notice how little wiggle room there was for the rotor inside the caliper bracket, and when spinning the rotor, the corroded edges of the rotor would rub on the bracket. So, i rubbed off the corrosion on the bracket and rotor with some steel wool, then sprayed the **** out of everything with brake cleaner.
While i was there i greased the caliper pins, cleaned off the brake pads with a table top wire wheel (must have for cleaning metal parts), and slapped it all back together (couldnt brake bracket bolts loose to remove the rotor). And now the shimmy is GONE! So, stop paying some scheming mechanic to install or resurface rotors, it most likely just needs a cleaning. You're welcome.
