Default first startup after hibernation

I wonder if I'm exagerating:
I feel I have to keep my XK8 from firing immdiately when I start her up after 5 months of hibernation? I imagine all the oil having sagged down from the places where lubrication matters, so I would rather crank the engine on the starter for say 10 seconds before it starts firing and revving 1500 RPM for a few secs. The thought is hurting....

So I can remove fuses from e.g. the fuel pump and/or the fuel injectors (my garage tells me not to just cut the ignition as flooding the engine will kill the spark plugs...).

So 3 questions basically: Am I too concerned, and secondly, will pulling the fuses work? Any unintended consequences?

Cheers,

Kees

Just start it. 5 months is no different to 5 weeks.

If you pull the fuel injector fuse, the engine will not fire.

Pulling the fuel pump fuse will still allow residual fuel to be injected.

Not to be pedantic but it is a fuel "relay" in the trunk, if my memory serves me right it is the one immediately below the cross of the T, all will come clear when you lift the fuse box cover

But personally I would just start it up

Just curious, why are you getting your Jag out of hibernation now when there's 4" of snow on the ground in this part of Europe?

Default dehibernate

Ha, Good question. But indeed, not a good plan to take it out these days. But having little else to do on the Jag I'm already making plans for April. So I already know what fuses to pull, but now I know it seems to not make sense. Might still do it though, just pampering the ole lady....

I hear you. Can't wait for the weather to improve to start enjoying mine again. My winter transport is a Ford Transit van

Absolutely. I have seen engines stripped after 3 years of inactivity and there's same amount of residual oil as an engine stopped overnight.

Well, living in France I would drive anything during winter... We go there for hols in a people mover (Grand voyager); Cannot wait to take the Jag and the missus, but have to wait for the kids to grow up...

Under the category of miscellany, pulling the relay(s) still does not counter residual pressure and it generates a code. Pulling the fuel injection fuse avoids both. The relay(s) is/are also fused.

Default so I did it

Today was the day; Got the cat purring again; Decided to pull fuse #5 (injectors), did 3 10 second cranks, replaced fuse and had the smoothest start ever.
Might be just suggestion, but with so little effort I would truly recommend this dehibernation sequence. Even if it does not make sense, it feels right!

My reward was a great trip through the fields, summer has begun!
