Cool Heat Vent sticking? FAQ

It's cold up here in Chicago tonight and coming home this evening I really needed the heat.

I don't seem to have any blowing at all into the seat wells. The front panel vents and the defroster are fine. When I call for the lower vents nothing happens, it just keeps blowing out of the panel vents.

Relay?

I searched the forum with no luck.

Thanks!

The "Foot Well Servo" is located in the Evaporator/Heater Assem. left side. This servo diverts air to the foot well. All the servos are controlled, and powered, by the AC control module.
With this being the only servo failing, it is probably the servo.

Thanks Fred!

I looked at my JTIS last night and I think I found the servo - accessible only after removing the dash entirely. Is this true in the real world?

In that case I would try this. IF you have access to AC control module (right side)
or the Evap./Htr. Assem. (Left side) check these pins

AC Control Module .............................Evap/Htr assem

AC 1-12 ...............................................AC 7- 8...............+12 if active Drives servo
AC 1-25 ...............................................AC 7- 7...............+12 if active Drives servo

AC 2-13 ...............................................AC 7- 6............... Position 3.5v = open

That way you can tell if the problem is the servo or somewhere up stream.

I have not had to work on the AC system so I don't know how difficult access will be.

Is there a secret code that you can use like holding in the AC button and the up heat or down cool button that will put the system into a test mode?

Corvettes have this and some other cars do too. The self tests generate a number code that tells you what's good and what's not.

I do know that on my 95xj6 it has a self diagnostic check when you press a few buttons on the console. I can do this by pressing and holding the AUTO & RECIRCULATION buttons and turn the ignition on, then press the AUTO button and the stored trouble will display. Now I do not know that it will work on the xk8.

I understand from my Jaguar source the newer cars do not have this option. What a dam shame!

I just got this today and have not had a chance to try it out. I will try to test it tonight and will let you know or you can tell me. It is the same as my 95 xj6.

1. Ignition off - hold down AUTO and RECIRCULATION buttons and
switch on the ignition
2. press AUTO button - if ZERO shows, there's no stored
error codes
3. press FACE button repeatedly to scroll through stored
fault codes
4. press FACE and HEATED REAR WINDOW buttons together to
clear a fault code.
5. repeat step 4 if there's more than one code
6. press FAN button to exit Interrogation Procedure

It would seem Jaguar doesn't make this info generally known.
So what's new?

Good luck.

Tried it on an '04 XK8 this afternoon.

It works..........

Fred

Looked in the JTIS. The DTCs that apply to the AC have, in their fault description, a "panel code "listed.

I will assume for now that is the number displayed on the AC control panel.

For instance:

DTRC B1264 says " Footwell servo drive circuit malfunction Panel code 46"

The surprise was....there was no surprise.
I hope it stays that way. I have learned not to trust anything electrical from Jaguar.
My 120 would honk the horn when taking a left turn. Obviously a safety feature.

The key to the 120 is not to take left turns.
