Hi Guys, before I put her to bed last fall ( I'm in Canada)I was having a restrictive performance issue. I tried checking the plug wells and no oil, it runs great for the first 25 minutes and then the light comes on and it's restricted. I noticed after it ran for about 25 minutes ideling yesterday, there was oil smell . Before I start to pull stuff off the engine and look for the leak does anyone have any ideas? I bought a gasket kit for the valves and plugs but when I checked the spark plug wells and they were dry, I didn't put them in. I may have to start relocating the coil in the cylinder that keeps coding misfire to see if it follows the cylinder before I start replacing coils. appreciate any feed back. Over the winter I tried to order a new bumper ( it was damaged when I got the car) I ordered a veilside ( spelling???) I waited about 3 months and finally called on delivery and they said they stoped making it for the XK8. I checked for just a replacement and they wanted about a grand with shipping. I decided to fix mine, I reinforced the damage from the back and decided to change the look, It's almost ready to install, it resembles the 2007 now, I'll post some pictures after it on. Save a bundle. Thanks guys

First, did you read the codes? If you're getting restricted performance you should get some OBD codes along with it. Knowing the OBD codes will go a long way towards helping us help you diagnose the problem.
Yes, I did the code, I guess it would be helpful to you guys.... Hey!!!
There are 5
P0302 Cyl 2 misfire
P1313 manufacture control ignition sys. or misfire.
P1316 same as previous.
P0352 Ignition coil B primary/secondary circuit malfunction.
P1000 manufacturer control fuel & air metering, aux. emission controls.
I erased everything but the last one would not clear after a few tries.
The thing is it's not consistent, it runs fine for the first 25-30 minutes then codes restrictive perf. and then clears maybe after another 30-40 miles and codes again could run fine for a few days and then starts all over again.
I was going to try to move the #2 coil around to see if the code changes with where I put it. Where is #2 because it calls each side A bank or B bank and then 1-4 on each side instead of 1-8.
thanks for your help. This site is awesome.

check the top of this subforum, there is a FAQ thread, with a picture of the bank and cylinder IDs. Check out that plug well when swapping!

It looks like a bad coil, or maybe a spark plug. #2 is the second cylinder from the front on the right side of the car. Swap a couple of coils around and see if the problem shifts to a different cylinder. While you have the coil off of cylinder #2 go ahead and pull the spark plug to see what it looks like.

I had changed the plugs last fall, NGK iridium. They look fine and no oil in the holes. I'll try moving the coil around. Do you know where else I could have an oil leak ? I get the smell of oil and a bit of smoke under the hood after it gets hot. I pulled the vavle covers off last fall it it didn't look like it was coming from there. There isn't any oil under the car on the ground.

Did you pull the valve covers last fall right before putting the car to bed? Normally some oil drips on the exhaust manifold when the valve covers are off, and it takes some running time for it to burn off and for the odor to clear.
I pulled them off because someone told me I might need gaskets but it didn't and I reinstalled the covers and drove it for another month. I got the smell of oil last fall and obviously now. It can't be leaking much because the oil consumption isn't out of the ordinary. Could there be a loose hose, maybe from the air intake or emissions that would leaking? This is my first jag and don't have much knowledge of this engine.
I used you diagram and swaped the #2 and #4 coils and plugs. The plugs had a little too much carbon but not sure if that's from running restricted performance???? I ran it after I switched the coils and it coded P0354 ignition coil d Primary/secondary circuit malfunction. The other was P0304 Cylinder #4 misfire detected. Which was the one in #2. It seems like it's that coil.
