Default Oil Cooler Height

Has anyone raised the height of their oil cooler? Does it require any change in brackets, oil lines, etc? Is it an involved procedure? How much extra height is gained?

Thanks!

Yes. Just unbolt the 2 mounts, slide them off with their rubber cushions and flip them 180 degrees, then reasseemble them on top of the brackets. This will give you roughly another inch or so of clearance. Well worth the effort IMHO. No cost but a little time and effort.

The bottom of my oil cooler is even with the bottom of the radiator. Does that mean the oil cooler has already been raised? From your description of the procedure, it appears it's already been done!

I am going from memory here because I am not near my car, but I believe of the pairs of nuts on each bracket are facing the ground, the change has been done, if they are facing (up) into the chassis, then it has not.

It looks like I have nuts facing both up and down, but I took some pics from different angles to give you an idea of how it is installed. How does it look to you? Mine is a 2002, is there any difference with your 2001?

Interesting...that is a somewhat different mounting system on the 2002 than on the 2001. It looks as if you could add more height with additional spacers and longer bolts if you wanted to, but you are mounted over the brackets like those of us who have made the mod on the earlier cars...so that is good.

I know the earlier brackets are no longer available...now I know why!

It was kind of funny yesterday, with the car on the lift at the indy shop, and me starting to explain to the tech and the rep how we could raise the height of the cooler. I got about half way through the explanation when I realized that there wasn't really much we could do to raise it. We all scratched our heads and finally the rep suggested adding spacers and longer bolts to raise it higher, as you just mentioned.

Finally this morning it occurred to me after looking at it again using the floor jack that it already had been raised by one of the previous owners.

Oh well, all good fun lol.
