Default Steering slack- Missing/worn tensioners

On a recent 3 hour drive I noticed about an inch of play in the steering wheel that I hadn't really noticed in city driving. Neil at Jaguar of Houston (indy shop - 713-266-8525) took a look today and determined that the intermediate steering column plastic tensioners had deteriorated from age (13 yrs/40K mi) and effected the needed repairs. WOW, what difference! As I drove home from the shop I could immediately tell the difference - it feels like I got a new car. $260 well spent. If you're in the Houston area Neil is the man to take care of your Jag.

Good save.

Plastic and Jags just don't go together, but as usual Jag probably saved a dollar on those "tensioners".

I have noticed something similar on my 2002 XKR, do you have the Jag part number?

He told me that it had to do with the "crumple zone" in the steering and that the parts are not readily available (they were over $500 when they were!) but was able to fabricate what was needed. A good indy shop should be able to do the same. Neil's number is in the OP if more detail is needed.
