Both the passenger and driver side visor mirrors on my XK8 were messed up. The mirror cover would just flop around, and when the visor was down the cover hung down and blocked my view. I fixed both of them today and got my son to hold the camera as I made a video.

The repair is very simple. Here are the step-by-step instructions:

1. Using a flat-head screwdriver pop the plastic cover off of the visor attachment pivot.
2. Use a philips screwdriver to remove the two screws.
3. Remove the mirror from the car.
4. Use a flat head screwdriver to pop the mirror assembly out of the visor. It just pops right out. It's easiest to start on one side and then just work your way around.
5. Once the mirror assembly is loose, carefully lift the assembly out of the visor. There are two wires that provide power to the lights. Be careful not to damage them.
6. You will find two "U" shaped springs underneath the mirror assembly. They have popped out of their slots and are just laying there loose.
7. Using some type of sturdy, flexible glue (I used 5 minute epoxy) reinsert the springs into the little slots at the bottom corners of the mirror assembly.
8. Press the mirror assembly back into place. (It pops right back in, just use finger pressure around the edges.)
9. Reinstall the visor into the car.

And that's it. It only takes ten minutes or so.

Excellent...both my visors flop down. I had the passenger side out before your video was over. The hot melt glue gun is warming up as I type. Great instructions. When I took my mirror apart there sat the 2 clips. It sure beats the little piece of duct tape I was using. Thanks

LOL! The wife hasn't noticed yet. It's just the breakfast nook table, so it's no big deal, but still my wife doesn't like it when I work on stuff in the kitchen. Of course, if she'd get her junk out of my garage I'd have more room!

 

Well when she does notice it, do the manly thing ... blame it on the kid(s).

 

You know what's sad, I broke my visor when my glue went into places it shouldn't. lol

I'm currently looking for a new visor.

That was just Dandy Sam!!... It seems that floppy covers are pretty common on these Ol' Gurls. Mine are the same way, and I'd just gotton over cardiack arrest after checking out the price of new visors. Thanks to you, I can "Turn Too" and address this little problem...;>)))

Thank you Sam.... The instructions were perfect.....! Had one spring missing on drivers side. Fortunately the one spring seems to hold the cover open/closed without an issue. Great thread.......

I will reiterate....thanks for the video. I did both sides of mine this weekend in 30 minutes or less. The video was key. I would tell everyone that the short end of the clip goes down into the small slot and you have to "seat" it otherwise it will be to high. Push it down with a screwdriver. I little bit of 5 minute and it wil fixed forever. Thanks again, Wnenn

 

I just fixed mine. Thanks to the video it took all of 10 minutes tops. If you're ever in Myrtle Beach lunch is on me.

Uh oh... you may have pulled on the little wire too hard. I'd check the bulbs first, although it's unlikely that both went bad at the same time.

I never liked those lights, anyway. Too much glare.

 

Geez, the Rev hast fine taste. (after typing that, I realized many will think I am simply complimenting myself since we have similar cars...at the moment)

Nemisis, also try the fuse...you may have shorted it during the reinstall. And, if you notice by the contacts on the post, the lights ONLY come on if the visors are all the way down AND in its 'clipped' position.
