Default 01 Cutting out on me in traffic

Happened in traffic on a hot day, after driving for 8 hours. I was going to pass someone and I hit the gas and the engine revved to about 3100 rpm and the engine cutout fot a split second then started revving and cutout again for a split second and did this 5-6 times, before I pressed the pedal to the floor and the car sputtered for a second or two and then took off. I pulled into a store to get something and when I came out the car ran great for about an hour and then it started acting up again. Went to see some friends for a couple of hours and when I started the car, it ran great, though it had cooled off outside. Also, when it was acting up, as long as I kept the engine at a steady RPM and did not go up any inclines, it did not cutout on me, just seem to run a little rough.

So, it seeems to happen when the car and outside temp are hot and the car is running about 1000-1900 rpm, funny thing was it only stalled once and I never got a code, so I am thinking it is a classic MAF gone bad.

Or is it something else?

Thanks!!

Sounds like fuel starvation, which I suppose could be caused by the MAF sensor sending faulty data to the ECU. It could also be a fuel pump going bad. Could be lots of things. Too bad you got no codes. The fact that it cut out when you tried to accelerate kinda makes me think fuel pump. Maybe it's keeping the pressure up at lower RPMs, but as the RPMs go up and the engine requires more fuel it can't keep up. Plus, on the 2002 and earlier cars the pump runs continuously. Maybe the pump was getting hot after running for 8 hours. What was your fuel level when that happened? The pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank.

Both times I had full tanks and I do not think that it is the fuel pump, because when I was on the interstate, it ran perfect at 80 and today it is running perfect.

I would also check O2 sensors and Catalytic Converters.

My S Type cut out and hesitated under hard acceleration. No codes until it happened with some frequency. Ended up it needed a Cat.

Makes me think of Pedal Position Sensor or the electrical connections to the same.

...or throttle body connector, hesitation/stalling mostly occuring at highway speeds for some crazy reason.
