Hey guys im in need of some help and im hoping you guys can be of assistance. My uncle has a 01 XK8 and underneath on the driver side of the throttle body there is a coolant hose that has a serious leak. and the only way i can get to it is to remove the throttle body. i can see maybe 6 bolts to remove it but is there anything else i should be aware of?? just lookin for some info before i start taking it apart. any info, experience, or pictures help! thanks.

Nothing difficult other than you need to plug the 2 coolant hoses when you remove them:

I used a couple of old Duracell AA batteries which were just the right diameter.

Gus,

Had to smile when I saw you'd also used Duracell batteries to plug the hoses!

Yes I know. All my tools are in storage and I had to take this on with what I had and the batteries fit the need. They worked!

Yes but you have a metal gasket under the TB.

The only component Gus hasn't illustrated in his superb procedure is the gasket. It's the black one shown in the second JPG attached to my earlier post.

You might get away with it but best to renew as you certainly don't want air leaks at the joint. Metal gaskets compress as the fixing bolts are torqued up and aren't intended for reuse.

Part Number is:

NNE 3021 AC - XK8 Throttle Body Adaptor Gasket

I paid £5 in November 2011 so expect around $10 with the difference in parts pricing structure between UK and US.

If you're in a pinch, you can reuse the gasket, I didn't buy another one when I took mine off to get to the EGR valve. It was the black one too. Luckily, no new leaks after reinstallation, and once you get the hang of removal/replacement of the TB, it doesn't take long.

Weird kind of fitting - do you mean the 'Norma Clamp' on the hoses?

If so, you can either buy the proper tool (the one with the purple handles in Gus's illustrated guide) or use a large pair of pliers to pinch it but watch out for your fingers as you take the tension off because they're tougher than they look.

well turns out the metal gasket is allowing air in. i though i could get away with reusing it but you can hear the engine wanting to die out and also hear the TB sucking air from around it. oh well it was worth a shot. im calling parts stores around town to find one, but i may end up getting it online. should i put some kind of silicone on when i get the new gasket? also is there a tightening sequence when tightening the new gasket to TB?

1. make sure both TB and inlet faces are clean
2. nothing on the NEW gasket
3. do all the four nuts up hand tight and then torque to 21Nm

I tighten diagonally but it probably doesn't make much difference.

yea i made sure the surfaces were all clean when i reused the old gasket. i even cleaned the old gasket with some carb clean and let it air dry before re-installing. hopefully the new gasket will work and I can get this jag back on the road!

got the throttle body and everything straightened out. after the work was done and the car started everything was fine and running smooth. the check engine light was on so i pulled the codes and it was saying there was a misfire in EVERY cylinder. but it doesnt make since because the car is running nice and smooth. it even passed smog! idk it was strange.

Do the codes return after you clear them?
