Default 02 XK8 front brake rotor spec

Does anyone know the minimum front rotor thickness spec for the original 02 XK8 front brakes. Our car is in the shop for it's first brake job (23k miles) and they will not turn the rotors without a minimum spec. Do this rotors have at least one turn in them or are they expected to be replaced with the pads?

Thanks,
Jamie

Hi Jcam,

According to JTIS for '02 XK:

"When a component reaches its maximum / minimum dimension limit the component must be replaced. Care must be taken when refinishing brake discs that the dimension limits are not exceeded."

Standard brakes
Brake disc - diameter 325 mm
Brake disc - thickness (new) 28 - 28.5 mm
Brake disc - minimum thickness 26 mm
Brake disc - minimum wall thickness XK8 6.2 mm XKR 6.6 mm
Installed brake disc - maximum run-out 0.1 mm

Brake pad - minimum thickness 2 mm
Caliper piston diameter 60 mm

Front Brake Dimensions - Brembo Brakes

Brake disc - diameter 355 mm
Brake disc - thickness (new) 32 mm
Brake disc - minimum thickness 30 mm
Brake disc - minimum wall thickness 6.7 mm
Installed brake disc - maximum run-out 0.1 mm

Caliper piston diameter 40/44 equivalent 60 mm
Brake pad - minimum thickness 2 mm

Note the paragraph at the beginning doesn't preclude having discs/rotors skimmed, but the 2mm or so between new and minimum thickness doesn't give much room to manoeuvre.

HTH,
Mike

Mike,

Thank you for the helpful information. As this car belongs to my want-to-be road racer wife. I opted to install the new rotors along with the pads. Better safe than sorry. I am sure your reply will help others with there brakes in the future.

Jamie
