Default 02 xkr not starting

Went to a car club party and when over, it would not start. Brought a few other Jag owners out and we decided fuel pump not on... Came back a few days later to see if I could get it started. All of the relay switches in the trunk were the same (?) so I moved them around and also tried to push the fuel pump inertia switch in on the panel at the driver's door. It did not really seem like it moved?
Anyway, still no start. Finally had AAA tow it home. Now in the garage to repair. But I would think that since it has two fuel pumps, the second one would have been able to start the car.... What am I missing.... Might it be the inertia switch ??
Thanks, Merry Christmas
Ken in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia, by golly !!

You may already have been running on only 1 good pump.

Then, when the second pump failed, you would not have any fuel pressure.

Did you try to start the car in “N”? See if this helps.

Start with a fuel pressure test.

That is not the way it works on this car. The 2nd fuel pump only is turned on during heavy acceleration, and also very briefly to prime it during start.

You can force the second fuel pump to do the job of the primary and run the car full time by pulling out the fuel pump #1 relay, then trying to start 5 or 6 times. The car is programmed to then run on the secondary fuel pump full time.

This is a useful test, and also a way to get home if the primary fuel pump fails. If the secondary fuel pump is also bad though (which is not all that uncommon) then both pumps probably need to be replaced.

The fuel pumps are much more prone to failure in this car that the relays or control system.
