Default 03 XKR front shock advise

One of my front shocks has a slight leak. This XKR has adaptive dampening, Brembo brakes and the super sport suspension. I checked the parts-price list on the Forum and it shows the shocks cost about $400. each. My repair shop also said that these shocks were not attached by rubber bushings on the bottom, but some kind of bearing assy which also seems to be going bad. I am trying to make a decision on replacing just the leaking shock or both of the front shocks. The car only has 50 K miles. I have had all the front bushings replaced, along with tie rods. The garage indicated that there are no after market shocks or rebuilt shocks available for my car. I would have to buy them or it from my Jaguar dealer$$$. I am looking for some suggestions from my fellow Jaguar Forum members. If the other shock is good should it be replaced or left alone until it fails? Does anyone know of a supplier that offers exchange rebuilt shocks?

I had the front shocks on my 2005 XKR Coupe replaced last year and the cost for the shocks and installation was around $700 total. MY indy Jag shop in Longwood, Fl. was able to get them from someone other than Jaguar. The historical recommendation is to replace the shocks in pairs, particularly if you have over 25k miles on the car. By the way, the lower bushing is essentially the same in design, front and back. The new shocks come with the bushings in place and the only other item you may need is the lower bushing bolt. When I replaced the front shocks I also elected to replace the upper bellows, bump stops and spring seats. These are not very expensive parts. The car drives, rides and handles like new.

Hope this will be helpful.

Hi thanks for the info. Does your XKR have the super sport suspension/with adaptive dampening and the Brembo brakes? If it does I would like to contact your garage to find out about where they got the shocks.

Yes, I have the factory installed sport package: red Brembo calibers, larger up front sway bar, adaptive dampening, tuned steering, and smaller sized rear sway bar.

The shop I use in Florida is a father and son business and they have been repairing and rebuilding all manner of Jags for over thirty years and really know their stuff. Their lead mechanic, George, is top notch.

The name of the business is All Jaguar in Longwood, Florida at: 407-830-5245. These guys are easy to talk with and very customer oriented.

Good luck
